“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” -Carl Rogers

About Me

  • When I’m working with clients, I primarily take an existential-phenomenological approach, which means that I practice with a non-judgmental and non-pathologizing lens to understand what you may be experiencing. I don’t assume to know what you have experienced, even if I might personally relate. The more I might assume I do, the more challenging it might be to actually be present in what the experience might really be like for you! It also means that when you share about a problem that continues to persist, I don’t assume that it’s a problem that should be solved either.

Let’s say for example, you are experiencing significant anxiety. Rather than focusing on how to get rid of it or attempt to process it out of you, I’m a lot more interested in knowing what it’s actually like for you. In fact, I might be more interested in helping you turn towards the experience and to help expand your tolerance to be more present with what anxiety might be trying to ask of you.

  • I typically work with adults and youth (14+) when they experience issues related to:

    • Anxiety (generalized, social, phobia)

    • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

    • Interpersonal Trauma and Abuse

    • Depression, Grief, and Loss

    • Elite Athletes/Peak Performance

    • Self-Discovery and Identity Exploration

    • Spiritual Crisis, Trauma, and Deconstruction

    • Worldview Consolidation and Value Conflicts

    • Substance Use and Addiction

    • Relationship Dynamics (marriage/partnership, workplace, friends, family)

  • My partner and I live in Langley, BC with our two daughters (three and five years old!). I love spending time with friends, playing & coaching soccer, disc golf, and chess. Prior to becoming a counsellor, I grew up in a military family in the United States and briefly played semi-professional soccer.

Coming through my own mental health journey, where I have felt exhausted and stuck—navigating abusive relationships, family with complex trauma, and even pressures from soccer—I've been incredibly impacted by the counselling services that I have received in my life which helped me find: relief from anxiety, healthier relationships, self-acceptance, and a greater sense of meaning in my life. These experiences have really informed my practice, where I look to help others find their personal "yes" to life!

To share more personally, I grew up in an Evangelical Christian family and culture. Through my education in counselling and existential analysis, I was able to access a greater language for the parts of this that did not fit for me and felt incongruent with my experience. After having gone through a significant period of deconstruction, I have now come to reconstruct my belief system which includes greater permission for multitudes: having significant appreciation for Christianity while also holding the parts that have hurt me and others. If you were to ask me what I believe in today, some people would call it Atheism; and others would call it Christianity. I’m not 100% sure what I would call it, but what has resonated most for me lately is the idea of being an “Existential Christian.”

Given the significant transitions in my own worldview, I have become quite passionate about the idea of supporting the bridge-building process for people of all worldviews and ideologies—especially in recent times of civic unrest and political polarization—and have even become a professional member of the Corps of Depth Healers (CODH) in order to invest further into this work of bridging the divides in opposing worldviews.

When most people hear the term "existential therapist," they might think about different ideas like "existential dread or crisis" and someone in a scratchy turtleneck who just wants to talk about death and meaning. And yes, these are technically existential concepts, but the truth of it is a little different. Without getting into too many details, what's essential is this: The aim each session is to help clients become more of who they really are, rather than who they should be. The more experience we've gained as counsellors, the more we have become convinced that when clients can expand their ability to be who they really are, the more meaningful life can be. This process will look different for each client, as this approach is non-prescriptive; but it is guided heavily by principles of therapy that are collaborative, person-centered, trauma-informed, and attachment-informed.
